Since SIHH 2016, the fair has included a new programme called the Carre des Horlogers. Below is a short video and overview of SIHH 2016. If we would summarize what happened, it would be that Swiss watches stood for innovation, differentiationand know how. Some amazing timepieces were the JLC 85th anniversary of the Reverso, IWC Aviator’s watch, and amazing craftsmanship of Cartier’s jewelry in watchmaking.

Some take away from the video:

The trend is kind of lowering watches’ dimensions and then we also work on the finishing touches. – Philippe Dufour (Maitre Horloger / Master Watchmaker)

Everyone needs to be assured, that’s the general feeling. We don’t try crazy things, we rework them, we will look into the pieces’ legacy even if there are beautiful things. – Anita Porchet (Emaileuse / Enamellist)

I feel that we focus more on what we can do, what is within us, our values, our codes and we talk a lot about DNA but it reinforces it a lot too; so I imagine for the consumer what is this brand. – Eric Giroud (Designer horloger / Watch designer)

Tougher legislation on the ‘Swiss Made’ label starting 1 Jan 2017. The Swiss-Made watches must now have 60% of the watch components made in Swiss, instead of the 50% from last year. What this means is that the watches at SIHH 2017 are expected to correspond to the quality and the reputation of Swiss watchmaking tradition. This is to guarantee the long-term credibility and value of the geographical indication.
