Panerai Luminor 1950 PAM 8 Days Watch (47mm) – PAM00601 is also known as “Equation of Time 8 Days Acciaio”. First introduced in SIHH 2015 (Together with its 8 Days PAM 516 & Luminor Submersible 1950 Carbotech PAM 616), PAM 8 Days Watch can certainly hold up to the title: Equation of Time. It is using the most vintage and compelling astronomical complication, the black dial PAM 8 Days Watch allows you to keep track of solar time.
Panerai Luminor 1950 PAM 8 Days Watch – PAM00601
We are used to measure a day in exactly 24 hours, but due to the oblong orbit of the Earth around the Sun; and the axial tilt of the Earth’s orbit in relation to the equator. Therefore, all other days has a difference in probable time (Solar time) and conventional time (mean time) which ranges around 15 minutes difference. In fact, there are only 4 days in a year that measures exactly 24 hours a day.
Here is where the Panerai Luminor 1950 PAM 8 Days Watch – PAM00601 comes into play and tells you the relative time to the given day. Now you might be thinking what is the use of the equation of time indication? While it is a cool factor to have and know, we can’t find a good answer to this question.
Panerai PAM 601 8 Days Watch Features
The Panerai PAM 601 8 Days watch comes with a 47-mm case with black dial, and is done with the “sandwich-style” construction. Similar settings to Panerai Radiomir PAM 516, the indicator of equation of time is linear and is placed above the 6 o’clock position; and what it does is to indicate the actual + or – time of the day. These are determined by the pre-set date and month of the year. The seconds sub-dial is at 9 o’clock position and another date window at the 3 o’clock position.
The PAM 00601 case is made of polished 316L stainless steel and has the case of the Luminor 1950 with the iconic bridge device with clamping lever to protect the winding crown.
Panerai 8 Days PAM 601 Caseback and Movement
On the back of the Panerai Luminor 1950 PAM 8 Days Watch – PAM00601 is a sapphire display caseback which allows the admiration of the P.2002/E movement. This hand-wound movement was first made by Officine Panerai in 2005 with a diameter of 13 3/4 lignes, 830mm thick, 31 jewels, and a KIF PARECHOC anti-shock device, with a power reserve of 8 days. Thus, giving PAM 00601 the name of a 8 Days Watch.
