Rolex Milgauss vs Omega Aqua Terra 15,000 Gauss – Which is better?

Rolex Milgauss brought the Milgauss name back to the game in 2007, a huge gap from 1988 where Rolex left it as it is.. It was re-introduced as Milgauss Rolex 116400GV, and it has since ignited a spark for Omega to come up with the Omega Aqua Terra 15,000 Gauss in 2013. What does Milgauss and Gauss means? It is actually a French word where Gauss is used to measure the strength of magnetic field. Rolex Milgauss has a protection from magnetic field of up to 1,000 Gauss, while Omega Aqua Terra is protected from magnetic field of up to 15,000 Gauss.

Omega Aqua Terra 15,000 Gauss is a breakthrough in technology for mechanical watches against magnetism. Since the parts of conventional mechanical watches are made mostly of metal, magnetic field that are strong enough can affect the accuracy of our mechanical wristwatches. The battle among these watches is stronger today with the rise of our modern technology. Perhaps if we compare the Gauss alone Omega Aqua Terra will win hands down, but lets take a closer look at Rolex Milgauss vs Omega Aqua Terra comparison.

Rolex Milgauss vs Omega Aqua Terra – Comparing the technology

Rolex Milgauss uses a tried and tested solution of a soft iron cage and the case is housed by a “Faraday Cage”. How this works is the cage (formed by ferromagnetic material) protects the movement from both the dial side and the back cover. You can see from the picture below that the shield inside labelled by an arrow and a letter B (sign of magnetic flux).
